While Loch Palm Golf Club isn’t the longest course in Phuket, it is certainly one of the most enjoyable and consistent. Nestled among jungle-clad hills, Loch Palm offers a natural setting while still posing many challenges to golfers of all skill levels. As the name suggests, palm trees are scattered throughout this parkland layout, though never too densely.

On the front nine, keeping the golf ball on dry land is the main objective, as many holes run alongside a sizable lake that cuts across some gently undulating fairways. The short 2nd hole tests golfers’ nerves with its water hazards, while the par-5 3rd hole features extensive bunkering. Wayward shots may find the perimeter real estate or, worse, out-of-bounds.

The back nine presents tighter and more undulating holes, beginning with the short but challenging downhill par-4 10th. The narrow par-5 11th has villas flanking the left side, so be prepared to shout “Fore!” Among the excellent holes on the back nine, the standout is the 14th, a par-3 played downhill to a green surrounded by water on three sides.

Golf carts are optional, and the course is always in top playing condition. The clubhouse, renovated in 2008, serves excellent Thai food at reasonable prices and is comparable to other Phuket golf courses.

A small on-site resort caters to local golfers looking to stay overnight for an early morning round. However, most Phuket golf visitors may prefer to stay in one of the better beach areas, which offer more amenities for tourists.
