The Sea Pines Golf Course, also referred to as the Army Golf Club II, is nestled along the picturesque Gulf of Thailand within the serene confines of the Suan Son Pradiphat, or Sea Pine Tree Garden. Originally under the ownership of the Royal Forestry Department, this golfing gem was later entrusted to the Royal Thai Army during the tenure of Field Marshall Sarit Thanarat, who served as Thailand’s prime minister from 1957 to 1963.

Enveloped by the breathtaking scenery of ocean vistas and mountainous terrain, Sea Pines boasts a landscape adorned primarily by bracken pine trees. Initially conceived as a retreat for active soldiers, veterans, and their families, the site has evolved into a premier golfing destination renowned for its challenging layout.

Designed to test the skills of golfers of all levels, the course offers a diverse range of challenges, its difficulty fluctuating with the whims of the coastal breeze. With six holes meandering along the coastline and the remainder nestled amidst mountainous terrain, players are treated to a dynamic and engaging golfing experience.

Among the course’s standout challenges is the par-5 12th hole, renowned for its strategic placement of fairway bunkers and a water hazard along the right flank. A central bunker further complicates the decision-making process for players, who must weigh the risks of aggressive play against a more conservative approach.

As players navigate the final stretch of holes, the influence of the sea breeze becomes increasingly pronounced. The 16th hole, a dogleg par-5, demands precision off the tee to avoid water hazards flanking the narrow fairway. Meanwhile, the signature 17th hole offers a breathtaking ocean backdrop, with the tee shot requiring a nerve-testing carry over water to a well-guarded green.

Rounding out the course is the formidable par-4 finishing hole, where a canal presents a formidable hazard demanding a lengthy drive to reach the safety of the fairway. For those opting for a more cautious approach, a well-executed lay-up with a fairway wood offers a viable path to a solid par.

After a challenging round, players can unwind at the modern clubhouse overlooking the Gulf of Thailand, indulging in delectable Thai cuisine while reliving the highlights of their game. However, visitors should note that priority on the course is afforded to Army officers and their guests, necessitating flexibility in scheduling for non-military players.

Therefore, those seeking to avoid potential delays are advised to check course availability in advance or explore alternative golfing options in the Hua Hin area.
